Enter our competition to win one of FIVE cat safety collars, courtesy of Kitty Collars.
Each year, the Branch takes in many rescue cats
and kittens into our foster homes. Some of these cats may have been
abandoned, been living as strays or due to personal circumstances
their owners are no longer able to care for them. Without any exceptions,
our foster homes are always full.
Careful Consideration…
However, please give careful consideration as to why you want to
offer a home to a rescue cat/kitten. Do you live away from any busy
roads or railways? Do you have access to a garden? Are there already
pets in the household? How will they react to a newcomer? Are there
any young children in the family? If so, it’s not advisable
to home a very young kitten as they can scratch and they are also
very fragile. Are all family members committed to offering their
home to a new pet?
Contact Us…
Once you have given it careful thought and have decided that you would
like to offer a loving home to one of our rescue cats/kittens, contact
us via the Cat-Line on 01332 206956.
One of our volunteer Cat-Line operators will then pass your details
onto the Homing Officer.
Home Visit…
Home Visits are a standard procedure operated by the Cats Protection,
please don’t be offended by this. We are unable to rehome any
cats/kittens until a successful home visit has been completed. The
main purpose of the home visit is to explain our policies as a charity,
more importantly, to assess what type of cat would be best suited
to a particular home environment. Also to ensure that any prospective
new owners fully understand the commitment they are undertaking when they
rehome a rescue cat/kitten.
Meet the Cats…
Following a successful home visit, the next step is to meet the cats
by visiting our Fostering Unit (by appointment only). Please take
your time when visiting the cats and don’t feel that you have
to make an instant decision. It’s an important decision and
we would prefer that you take the necessary time to ensure that the
decision you make is the right one.
Finally…
We are a small Branch, so please bear in mind that we may not always
have the right cat for you. But be assured that there is always a
long list of cats waiting to come in!
Although we do our best to ensure that the right cat is homed with
the right owner, we very rarely know the background of the cats that
come into the Branch care. Many have had traumatic experiences which
can make their behaviour unpredictable. Therefore, if you encounter
any problems once you have rehomed a cat, we will do everything we
can to assist with resolving the situation.
