In Praise of Older Cats
As you can see from our Homing section, currently we have a number
of older cats waiting for loving homes.
It is becoming increasingly common for young cats aged 3 + to be
classed as old. However, cats, like people are living longer thanks
to good diets and veterinary care.
A recent article in the Cats Protection official journal "The
Cat" (May - June 2004, pages 8&9), points out that it is
not unusual these days to see cats live into their 20's, and many
do not show any signs of ageing until they are well into their teens.
The article highlights the benefits of homing an older cat.
Older cats are much less demanding than kittens in many ways,
they are much more settled, their personalities are fully formed
and they make excellent companions.
More often than not, they seek nothing more than a bowl of food
and water, a comfortable lap/bed to sleep on and plenty of affection.
As such they are often perfect for either first time cat owners
or older people who are seeking a companion cat. Please consider
offering a home to one of our older cats.
