about us sectiondylan, wilbur and monty
A substantial proportion of the work that the Branch supports is cat welfare. We have an extremely small team of dedicated field workers and vet runners who actively go out and rescue sick or injured cats. From time to time, we will bring you features giving you an insight into this essential but often traumatic aspect of the cat welfare work carried out by our volunteers.

Thomas goes to the seaside
click here for bigger picture Little did I know that when I purchased a copy of The Telegraph on a Saturday morning shortly before Christmas, the “knock on” effect that would have. On the second page of the paper in Celia Hammond’s pet column under “Rescue Me” was a picture of a cat called Thomas. Thomas is old and, due to a road accident, has an uncontrollable bowel problem i.e. he gets no warning and is always “caught short”. more »

Jacks Story
read Jacks Story Jack is a beautiful 6 month old ginger kitten, who ended up in the Branch care after he was found cowering under a car on a dark, cold December evening His situation was made worse as he was found to be suffering from cat flu, particularly worrying for a young kitten - he was only 12 weeks old when he was found. more »

Flo's Story
read Flo's Story Flo is a beautiful black and white short haired kitten who was one of our ‘challenge’ cats and who has now found a loving new home. Challenge cats are deemed as cats or kittens that are difficult to rehome. This can be for a number of reasons, such as disability, behavioural problems or antisocial behaviour. A ‘challenge’ cat will need a particularly special home, and the type of home they require will differ depending on their specific needs. more »

A Tribute to Nelson
read Nelson's Story Nelson will always have a special place in our hearts, as he was the first cat to be rehomed from our new foster unit which was opened towards the end of 2003. Sadly, Nelson is with us no more, his owners share with us their poignant story of their time with Nelson. more »

Dylan's Story
read Dylan's Story Dylan was reported to us a stray early in November 2001. Veterinary treatment was sought for him straight away. He was in an appalling state. A large frame cat he weighed little more than a bag of sugar - approx. 1/5th of what he should have weighed.more »

Monty's Ordeal
read Monty's Ordeal
Monty was one of the most distressing cases to be referred to the branch. Monty was found at the bottom of a lady's garden in the state you see in the before photo below. The lady hoped he would go away and eventually called us after he'd been there for three days. more »
