George, the one eyed tabby reunited with owners
4th August 2004

news section

The Wallace family from Spondon were celebrating after the return of their much loved cat. George the tabby who is fourteen and has one eye had gone missing on the 1 st July. George was prone to getting into peoples vehicles and going for a ride, so the family were very concerned that he may have travelled some distance.

The Wallace family contacted the Derby & District Branch, via the Catline (01332 206956) and email (info@derbycats.org.uk). Details of their lost moggie were logged onto the Lost and Found register.

It proved to be Georges lucky day when a Spondon resident visited Derby Cats online and viewed the Lost & Found register. They soon realised that the cat who had been letting himself into their house via their cat flap and helping himself to the resident cats food, was none other than George the one-eyed tabby. Debbie Shaw, the Branches Web site Officer then arranged for Georges owners to go to the home where George had taken up temporary residence.

The Wallace family were delighted to have been reunited with George, who had been missing for over 3 weeks. They have no idea how he managed to end up a mile away from home, unless of course he had had a lift there!

George was originally rehomed from the Cats Protection as a special needs cat on account of his one eye. However, Mrs Wallace insists he has never had any special needs at all. They are now going to get George microchipped!

Debbie Shaw stressed the importance of identifying your cat, the best method being microchipping. Micro chipping is carried out by a vet, and is a painless procedure for the animal. The cost for microchipping varies but is around £20.

Debbie Shaw said ‘All cats reported lost or found to the Derby & District Branch, are also added to our online Lost & Found register. Reported cases remain on the site for two months after which they must be resubmitted. The web site also contains useful tips on what to do if you have lost or found a cat’. www.derbycats.org.uk
