VACANCIES JANUARY 2008

We are particularly looking for help in the following areas:

We currently do not have any vacancies for fosterers..

CAT-LINE VOLUNTEER (SUNDAYS) :
Volunteer helpers are urgently being sought by a local animal charity. The Derby & District branch of Cats Protection is seeking people living in the Derbyshire area who could offer their services free for a few hours on a Sunday to staff their Cat-Line.
This would involve the volunteer retrieving recorded voicemail messages from members of the public using their own phone and passing the details on to the appropriate branch volunteers. Training and support would be given.
Jane Baynton, the branch’s volunteer recruitment officer, said: “The job would suit someone who is at home for most of the day. It is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to help cats without leaving the comfort of their own home!”.
Anyone who can help is asked to contact the Cat-Line on Derby 206956 (voicemail) and leave their name, address and a short message.

LOST AND FOUND OFFICER:
The role of Lost and Found Officer is to reunite lost and found cats with their rightful owners. This would entail cross-checking against advertisements in the local press and receiving faxes from the cat line regarding Lost and Found cats.
The Lost and Found Officer would also be involved in passing on updates to the web site so thet lost and found can be updated on the web site by our web site volunteer.
The role would suit someone who is working either full or part time, or is retired. In terms of time commitments, it is likely to take 2-3 hours per week.
Full training and support will be given, and a fax machine provided.

PEN SPONSORSHIP:
We currently have a vacancy for a Pen Sponsorship Secretary.
This scheme was set up over 8 years ago by one of the supporters of the branch. We currently have over 115 sponsors and the scheme is important for generating revenue for the branch which has gone towards cat welfare activities. Our current pen sponsorship secretary Clare has had to resign due to other commitments. We are keen to keep the scheme going and are therefore looking for someone to replace Clare.
Members of the public who quite often cannot have a cat of their own can sponsor a pen and obviously the cat in the pan. The cost for this is £15 per year. The sponsorship secretary corresponds with the person sponsoring the pen and will send updates and photos of the cats in the pens being sponsored. In effect, it involves sending photos and a letter to inform the sponsor which cat is in the pen they are sponsoring, and some news on what has happened to the previous occupant.
The role would suit someone who enjoys writing letters (which can be hand written or produced on a computer) and likes corresponding with others.
In terms of time commitments, it is likely to take a minimum of 2 hours per week.

PUBLICITY OFFICER : We are seeking a volunteer Publicity Officer. The job involves promoting and marketing the profile of the Branch and establishing a rapport with the local media, (ie radio/TV stations) to gain assistance with publicity for fundraising events, stories of special cats needing special homes, or appeals for donations of cash or for volunteer help. We already have a data base of the local media. Most of the above work is self-generating but the Publicity Officer would also take instruction from the Committee regarding what publicity is required. Since this is a Committee position, the individual will be required to be a member of the Branch and attend monthly Committee meetings (at present these are held on the second Tuesday evening of each month) at the Branch's Charity Shop at 31 Wardwick, Derby.
FULL TRAINING and support will be provided.
Anyone who is interested is asked to ring the Cat-Line on 01332 206956 (Answerphone) and leave their details. An application form and job specification can then be forwarded on.

CAT-LINE VOLUNTEERS : We are seeking volunteers who live in the Derbyshire area who could offer their services free for a few hours on a WEDNESDAY to staff our cat line.

This would involve the volunteer retrieving recorded voicemail messages received from members of the public using their own telephone and passing the details to the appropriate Branch volunteer. Training and support will be provided. This vacancy would suit someone who is at home for most of the day.

This is a vital role within the branch that brings with it a great deal of satisfaction. this is one of the jobs within the branch where someone can help cats from the comfort of their own home. however, as it is a committee position, the volunteer would be required to become a member of the branch and to attend committee meetings.

The ideal applicant would be someone who is retired or who works part time. they would also need to have their own telephone. the successful applicant would need to be calm, level headed, relaible, committed and capapble of dealing with animal welfare situations which can at times be very challenging. full training and support will be given to the successful applicant.

FIELD WORKERS: feeling fit and up for a challenge? This role is all about cat welfare and involves picking up animals which have been reported to us by members of the public as stray and/or injured, and transporting them to a veterinary surgeon. In addition, our field workers use humane cat traps to catch sick or injured feral cats who cannot be easily handled so we can get them help as soon as possible.
